Do you know what hydraulic fracturing is and whether it’s a good or bad development for the state?
More than half of North Carolinians polled in the Elon University Poll said they don’t know enough about what is known as fracking. Which is probably a good thing if you’re a proponent of the controversial practice of this natural gas production method. The General Assembly will consider a bill in May to permit the practice throughout the state. It has the support of leaders of the House and Senate, and public hearings have been contentious. (Here is the latest development.)
Meanwhile, the EPA is scheduled to release air pollution standards for wells developed with hydraulic fracturing in mid-April.
